As the New Year is upon us, I remember sitting among the congregation as Pastor Adrian Pina preached the last message in his Christmas series. The sky was dark and the rain was falling. But the message he shared was bright. Mary was an ordinary girl, only about fourteen years old. A virgin. Yet she was informed by an angel that she would give birth to our Savior.
She didn’t ask “Why?” She only asked “How?” She believed the angel’s message to be true and she trusted God to fulfill His promise. We know the rest of the story. The virgin Mary conceived our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and gave birth to Him so that He could later die on the cross to save us from our sins.
But Mary isn’t the only ordinary person ever called to do something seemingly impossible and amazing for God. Stories such as this are found throughout the Bible as well as around us every day. Look at the alcoholic who overcame her addiction. Listen to any contemporary Christian artist tell his story. Talk to a member of your church’s congregation. You’ll be amazed by the mountains that have been moved in these lives. All because they believed.
What has God called you to do? Will you believe it is indeed possible? Will you trust God’s will for you? Make this New Year the best one yet. “For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37
